Two fundraisers from Portsmouth will be hoping they do not have to call upon their breakdown cover as they take part in a 1,400-mile drive across the UK in an ambulance to raise money for an African health project.
Sisters Caroline Johnston and Andrea Ward will visit Exeter, Cheltenham, Halesowen, Manchester and Liverpool among other places as part of their mammoth trip before returning to their home city on June 25.
The money raised from the trip, which the sisters hope will be around £40,000, will go to the Village Africa Ambulance Appeal in Yamba, Tanzania. It will go towards purchasing an ambulance to take sick people in the area to a hospital three hours away in Tanga.
Friends and members of the Helen O'Grady Drama Academy, where Caroline works, will meet the sisters at each planned stop. Hopefully they will not be needing any car breakdown recovery during the trip.
Village Africa Ambulance Appeal founder Caroline, 46, said: "It is a two-day walk to hospital. Patients include many babies and children. An ambulance will save many lives. Please donate so that we can buy an ambulance as quickly as possible. We are a small but very active charity and need help from as many different people as possible."
