Drivers who have been hit hard by the rising cost of motoring, such as fuel prices, tax, and car insurance, will be boosted by news that supermarket giant Asda has cut the price of petrol.
Asda said the cost of fuel at 180 of its filling stations across the country will be reduced until at least the end of August.
The supermarket giant revealed it has knocked 1p off a litre of petrol, which will now cost no more than 111.9p a litre.
In addition, it has knocked 2p off the price of diesel, which will now sell for 114.9p a litre.
It comes on the back of figures from the latest income tracker that show motorists looking for breakdown cover may find themselves even more hard pressed, as spending power is down 4.2% year on year.
According to the research, that equates to a £7 fall in disposable income every week.
The company said UK families could face the lowest amount of disposable income in the final quarter of 2010 for two years.
Asda president and chief executive Andy Clarke said: "These are increasingly uncertain times for millions of families across the UK."
