Car passengers driving millions mad

Nearly four million British motorists are choosing to travel alone because annoying passengers are driving them mad, a survey has revealed.

People in their fifties are a third more likely to opt for a solo journey than those in their twenties, as older drivers appear to have less tolerance, the Continental Tyres poll shows.

Passengers' behaviour will annoy a driver at least three times during the average car journey. The survey also reveals that it takes just six minutes for drivers to get angry.

Hopefully sorting out their car insurance won't irritate motorists quite as much.

Unable to keep their hands, feet and thoughts to themselves, the Backseat Driver was named the most annoying passenger to have in the car. They brake hard before every junction, slam the dashboard with their hands in panic, comment on every turn, and account for more than four in ten irritating passengers.

Researchers studied the opinions of 4,000 drivers and it emerged a further one in ten fall under the 'Fiddler' category - those bored individuals that twiddle with buttons, air con and switch between radio stations.
