Crash for cash scammers still at large

The 'crash for cash' insurance scam, which accounts for around £59.5 million worth of fraud across Britain, is most common in Birmingham, research has found.

The Second City has the dubious honour of coming out top for a sixth consecutive quarter in a league table representing hotspots for the immoral stunt.

The Insurance Fraud Bureau revealed that motorists in Sheffield and Manchester are also responsible for logging false car insurance claims, after studying 128 million UK insurance records.

The body has 17 different forces specifically targeting the crash for cash epidemic, with more in the pipeline. Its director Glen Marr says insurers are "invested heavily" in bringing it to a stop.

"This investment is also being supported by consumers, who intolerant of insurance fraud and the criminals associated with such, are taking a stand by reporting suspicions to their own insurers and to the industry fraud Cheatline managed by the IFB," he added.
