Driving 'affected by hot weather'

While the start of September is a sad time for most, with the end of school holidays and trips away, a survey has revealed that for motorists, the end of summer may come as a welcome relief.

According to research by Kia Motors, the hot weather can have a negative effect on how people drive on the roads, potentially increasing the chances of road accidents occurring and car insurance claims needing to be made.

The study found that 36% of motorists have been involved in an accident over the summer months, with 9% admitting to speeding more often when the temperature is hotter.

Around 14% of respondents revealed their driving is worse on a sunny day, and at 61%, the most common reason is due to getting hot and flustered.

Steve Kitson, communications director at Kia Motors UK, said: "Whilst a bit of sunshine is guaranteed to lift the mood of the nation it is clear that Brits can't take the heat.

"Although hot weather in the UK is often rare, it has the effect of getting drivers flustered as there are more distractions on the road."
