German models top used-car list

Although generally expensive when it comes to car insurance, vehicles made by German manufacturers such as BMW and Audi are among the most sought after second-hand cars in the UK, research has revealed.
A poll by online used-car retailer Autoquake.com found that the BMW 3 Series has turned the heads of the most bargain hunters, with the Audi A4 following closely behind.
BMWs comprised 20.9% of searches for individual models, followed by Audi with 16.1% and Mercedes-Benz with 12.1%.
German-made cars dominate the top seven places in the list, with the Ford Focus coming eighth.
A spokesman for Autoquake said German vehicles accounted for almost three in five of all searches. Japanese models came next on 9.8% and UK brands in third with 9.1%.
The results come as the general price of car insurance and home insurance is rising, with fraud accounting for 11.5% of the increase, recent figures from the AA show.
