Car sharing is a very likely option for parents on the school run for the new term as they bid to cut soaring motoring costs, a survey has shown.
A quarter (25%) of mums and dads of under-18s claimed they were very likely to car share with other parents, according to the study from used car search website Motors.co.uk. Many parents will be waiting keenly to see if the development affects their car insurance premiums.
The YouGov poll also revealed one-sixth (15%) of parents will reduce or stop extracurricular activities as they struggled to transport youngsters around their area for things like football or ballet classes.
In the poll of 2,000 adults, more than half (54%) said they made big lifestyle changes due to the rising costs of running a car.
"The news is constantly telling us that people everywhere are tightening their belts," said Phil Jones, Commercial Director of Motors.co.uk. "However these figures show concrete evidence of the everyday sacrifices that motorists are making."
