Ashley Cole is likely to be making a claim on his home insurance after his flat was burgled while he was away on England duty.
Cole, 29, had been getting ready for England's match against Switzerland on Tuesday when thieves entered his bachelor pad on Saturday afternoon.
The Chelsea defender will now be questioned by police to find out what was stolen from the property in Esher, Surrey.
The crime is the second time the footballer has been targeted - a fact showing the importance of a robust home insurance policy. Thieves attempted to break in to his £4.5 million Surrey mansion in February, but left empty-handed.
A Surrey Police spokesman said: "We can confirm that Surrey Police is investigating a break-in at a property in Portsmouth Road, Esher, on Saturday afternoon. No-one was injured and inquiries are continuing."
The break-in occurred the day after his "quickie divorce" from X Factor judge Cheryl.
The pop star filed for divorce on the grounds of Cole's unreasonable behaviour in the wake of public allegations about the England and Chelsea defender's infidelity.
