Millions of homeowners who do not have adequate home insurance could be forced to pay more than £5,000 for a new roof.
Roofs on homes that were built during the post-war construction era are about to reach the end of their natural lives.
According to the CLG English Housing Survey, 4.8 million roofs, or 20%, need repairing.
However, almost two-thirds of homeowners incorrectly think their home insurance policy covers them for all roof-related problems.
Subsequently, myredlandroof.co.uk is warning homeowners not to merely assume that their roof repairs will be covered under their buildings insurance.
An Association of British Insurers official said: "As a general rule, buildings insurance is not a maintenance contract and therefore does not cover roof damage caused by wear and tear, deterioration and neglect."
