TJ Hughes staff hit by job cuts

The end of trading at 22 TJ Hughes stores will cause more than 1,000 people to lose their jobs in the coming days.

Those with income protection cover may need to rely on their insurance in light of the store closures, which were announced by administrators Ernst & Young.

According to the firm, next week will see trading stop at the stores, which employ 1,061 members of staff in total.

However, efforts are still being made to sell the remaining business and assets that the firm holds, a spokesman indicated.

Tom Jack, joint administrator, said the closure of the stores is regrettable.

He commented: "We are extremely grateful to the employees and management at all the group's stores, at the head office and at warehouses for their loyalty and support during what has been a very difficult and uncertain time."
