Residents in Essex - and pet insurance providers - can sleep a little easier after a "potentially dangerous" 6ft snake which slithered out of its owner's bathroom window a month ago returned home.
Diego the boa constrictor sparked a hunt involving specialist search officers who warned the public to be on their guard after he escaped from his home in Barnfield, Wickford, on July 30.
Police believe Diego, who was found in the garden of his owner's house on Tuesday, was hunting for food such as small rodents and lizards during his month-long freedom bid.
Boa constrictors, which are native to South and Central America, squeeze to death their prey and swallow them whole and would require a specially formulated pet insurance policy.
Speaking after the escape, owner and reptile expert Aaron Waymont, 22, said: "I've kept a lot of animals in my time, but I've never had one go missing before. He broke his glass and found his way out."
