A man has been left "devastated" by a judge's decision that he cannot have his dog back after giving it away to a friend.
Gary Rowlinson, of Stockport, Cheshire, gave up his sausage dog Bailey to his friend Steven Spencer after it bit his granddaughter. But the 55-year-old soon began to miss his old pet and asked his friend if he could have him back, reportedly even offering him £1,000.
When Mr Spencer said he would not give the dog back a legal battle ensued.
Bailey's new owner may now be in the market for some cheap pet insurance after a judge ruled at Stockport County Court that the "gift" could not be taken back.
Mr Rowlinson, a joiner from Offerton, said he and his family are devastated that he can't get the dog he bought for £700 back, but he told reporters that he would abide by the judge's decision and put it behind him.
