Nearly two million Britons are making sure they have their passport, travel insurance and travel money ready as they prepare for the Bank Holiday weekend exodus.
According to an estimate from the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA), 1.8 million are leaving the country, with Friday being the busiest day for travel.
The majority of people are plumping for a beach holiday, with destinations including Mediterranean islands, Turkey, Egypt and mainland Spain. Orlando and New York in the US are also popular, as well as European cities such as Paris, Amsterdam and Venice.
ABTA says more than 420,000 passengers will fly from Heathrow, with Gatwick seeing 250,000 through its doors, followed by 136,000 from Stansted and around 65,000 from Luton.
Hundreds of thousands of holiday travellers will depart from regional airports and some people will reach their destination by Eurostar or ferry.
