The 5 golden rules of air travel

The-5-golden-rules-of-air-travel

These are the five golden rules of air travelling:

Label your luggage

Lost luggage can seriously dampen spirits on a holiday or business trip. Whilst you might not be able to prevent this from happening, you can take measures to ensure that your luggage will be returned to you…eventually.

Bring sweets or gum

If you suffer badly from the horrific popping sensation when flying, you will need to swallow to reduce the pain. The changes in air pressure cause the eardrum to stretch, which means it cannot vibrate correctly. Swallowing is a great way to release the pressure. You swallow most when you’re chewing gum or sucking on sweets.

Triple check documents

The last thing you want is to arrive early with your carefully labelled luggage and ready to board sweets but fail to bring your passport.

Whilst you may think it is the most obvious thing to do before leaving the house, you would be surprised at the amount of people who do forget to bring their passports to the airport or print their boarding passes.

As a result, many low budget airlines will charge a hefty fee for those who forgot to print their boarding pass. From 15th January, Ryanair is increasing the charge from £40 to £60 each way for not bringing a boarding pass.

Baggage allowance

Having your favourite perfume or even that bottle of water you’ve just bought confiscated from you is one of the many irritating airport security control procedures.

You can easily avoid this scenario by sticking to the limit. In most cases, airports will have a 100 ml rule for liquids, fluids, gels, pastes and creams for hand luggage. This also includes toothpaste, lipstick and mascara.

Allow time for your flight

If you miss your flight as a result of lateness, you could potentially lose hundreds, if not thousands of pounds. It would be advisable to aim to arrive at the airport before your flight. Check with your airline for details on when you should arrive.

Your travel insurance may not cover you due to certain events outside your control; check your policy document for details.
