Top five New Year holiday destinations

With 2012 in its infancy, New Year holidays will still be on the cards for a number of Brits. Whether you are looking for a last minute trip away or are already planning your summer holiday for later this year, here are five of the best destinations:
1. Florida
Often seen as the best destination for families with young children, Florida has a range of great attractions for tourists. The number of tourists who visited Florida in 2011 was said to have increased by 5% from 2010, with a similar pattern expected in 2012. With the Walt Disney World Resort, Florida Keys and a vast expanse of impressive beaches all close at hand, Florida is perhaps the best New Year holiday destination.
2. Greece
The historical attractions and stunning landscapes of this area have made it a popular destination for a number of years. Recent developments over the country’s economy have led to some reductions in holiday prices, making it a great destination for New Year holidays.
3. Turkey
Having grown in popularity amongst tourists recently, Turkey is the ideal destination for New Year holidays. Marmaris and Istanbul in particular are popular regions, with Istanbul receiving 8 million tourists in 2011, 16% more than in 2010, according to Today’s Zaman.
4. Sri Lanka
According to CheapHolidayDeals.co.uk, travel magazine Conde Nast Traveller has featured Sri Lanka as a holiday hotspot for 2012. Dubbed the “Pearl of the Indian Ocean”, Sri Lanka is sure to offer tourists the perfect combination of sun, sea, sand and surfing. Varied wildlife is found across this beautiful island, with tropical forests and picturesque beaches giving tourists plenty to explore.
5. Spain
Frequently named the UK’s favourite destination, a trip to Spain could be the perfect New Year holiday. With a range of popular island resorts, such as Ibiza, Majorca and Magaluf, featuring alongside attractive mainland cities, such as Barcelona and Madrid, Spain offers the perfect holiday for all travellers in the New Year.
