Holidaymakers have been urged to take out adequate travel insurance this summer after a study revealed electronic gadgets have resulted in suitcase values soaring.
Digital cameras, mobile phones, iPods and hair straighteners are increasingly seen as 'must have' holiday items, making many tourists walking electronics stores that are an easy target for thieves while abroad, the study said.
According to a survey by VoucherCodes.co.uk, the digital camera was the most popular holiday gadget item, with 72% of British holidaymakers taking them abroad, closely followed by mobile phones, which two thirds of jet-setters admitted taking with them in order to keep in touch with family and friends.
Duncan Jennings, co-founder of VoucherCodes.co.uk, said the rising value of the average Brits' suitcase highlighted the importance of travel insurance.
"Our love of expensive electricals and designer labels means the value of the average suitcase has drastically increased, so don't forget travel insurance," he said.
Digital cameras topped the list of essential suitcase gadgets, followed by mobile phones, iPods or MP3 players, the iPhone and GHDs or hair straighteners.
