Most Britons 'overspend on holiday'

The majority of UK holidaymakers overspend while away from home, new survey results suggest.

Despite many holidaymakers changing their travel money before they go abroad, Credit Confidential figures indicate that 60% of people are spending more than they should.

In some cases, consumers are having to repay the travel debts they rack up over a period of four months.

On an average basis, travellers are going around £237 over budget while on holiday.

Overspending was deemed to be part of the overall travel experience by 17% of those who were queried in the survey.

Commenting on the results, Credit Confidential vice-president Paul Lewis said: "The hangover from holiday overspend looks set to stay with us in the run-up to Christmas, with millions of us having to make changes to our budgeting plans in order to pay off these unexpected debts."
