Holidaymakers are increasingly choosing to visit countries outside Europe, figures have shown.
People in the UK were taking more holidays to Turkey and Tunisia, no doubt hoping to make their travel money stretch further.
However Spain still topped the most-visited list, despite trips to the country falling by more than 10%.
Italy, Greece and Cyprus also saw visits from UK residents fall by the same figure, the Office for National Statistics figures showed.
Despite this dip, the top three countries visited by UK residents last year were Spain, with 10.4 million visits, France, with 9.1 million and the USA, with 3.2 million.
Overall trips abroad fell by 5.2%, with figures possibly affected by the problems related to the Icelandic volcanic ash cloud crisis.
