Why is it important to have pet insurance?
Your pet is an important part of your family and if it was injured or became ill, you’d want it to receive the treatment it deserves. Pet Insurance means you don’t have to think twice about taking your four-legged friend to the vet. It’s also worth considering that you’re far more likely to claim on your pet insurance than you are on car or home policies. That’s because as many as 1 in 3 pets may require urgent veterinary attention each year. When does my cover start?
Take out ASDA Pet Insurance and your cover begins straightaway. However, you can’t make a claim for illness in the first 14 days.
How do I know if my application has been accepted?
After you’ve purchased your policy online, you’ll receive an email confirming your cover (if you supplied your email address). Documents are sent to you within 10 working days.
My pet’s not a registered breed, will you insure him?
Of course! You don’t love your pet less because he’s not a pedigree. Mutts and moggies in all shapes and sizes are more than welcome.
Does it matter how old my pet is?
Your cat can be covered from 8 weeks old until their 10th birthday. Dogs can be covered from 8 weeks old until their 8th birthday (or 5th birthday for some breeds).
My pet has had medical problems in the past – will you still be able to offer cover?
Your pet can still be covered. However, it’s likely that your cover will exclude the conditions your pet suffered from before the insurance started.
Can I pay for my policy in instalments?
You can pay for your policy by monthly Direct Debit at no extra charge (0% APR).
Are all my vet’s bills covered?
Your insurance policy will cover any unexpected veterinary treatment, provided there are no exclusions placed on your policy.
Do you stop offering cover as my pet gets older?
Once your pet is covered by ASDA Pet Insurance we’ll continue to cover it, provided you continue to renew your policy and there is no break in cover.
How old does my pet need to be?
Your cat or dog must be 8 weeks old or over to be covered by ASDA Pet Insurance.
Is my pet covered if we travel abroad?
Pet travel insurance is available as an optional extra to your policy. You’ll need to add this option to your cover when you buy or renew your policy to ensure your pet is covered when you go abroad.
How do I make a claim?
That’s really easy. Just call 0845 077 7767 and we’ll send you a claim form which you need to fill out and return. It’s even quicker if you download a claim form from the website.
How quickly will the claim be processed?
As long as the form you return is filled in correctly and the claim is valid, payment is normally made within 10 working days.
If I make a claim, will it affect my insurance premium?
No. Unlike some insurance providers, we don’t make you pay more just because you’ve had to make a claim.
Do I have to pay the vet and you reimburse me?
Normally, yes. However, sometimes we can pay the vet directly (you just pay the excess). You’ll need to check with the vet.
