How to access data we store about you
If you wish to make a subject access request under the Data Protection Act, 1998 relating to information held about you by the Aviva Group of Companies, please write to Data Protection Manager, Norwich Union Insurance Services Ltd, Pitheavlis, Perth PH2 0NH.
Insurance Administration
In order to assess the terms of the insurance contract or administer claims which arise, we may need to collect and process data which the Data Protection Act 1998 defines as sensitive personal data (such as criminal convictions). If you proceed with an application for insurance you will signify your consent to such information being processed by us or our agents.
For the purposes of the Data Protection Act 1998, the data controllers in relation to any personal data you supply are Norwich Union Insurance Services Limited and Allianz Insurance plc.
Information you supply may be used for the purposes of insurance administration by Norwich Union Insurance Services Limited, Allianz Insurance plc (or a replacement insurer) and by third parties who provide services to them. Information may be disclosed to regulatory bodies for the purposes of monitoring and/or enforcing the insurer's compliance with any regulatory rules/codes. Information may also be transferred to any country, including countries outside the European Economic Area for any of these purposes and for systems administration.
In assessing claims made insurers may also check against publicly available information such as the electoral roll, county court judgements, bankruptcy orders or repossessions.
Credit Searches
In assessing your application/renewal the insurer may search files made available to it by credit reference agencies who may keep a record of that search. The insurer may also pass to credit reference agencies information it holds about you and your payment record. Credit reference agencies share information with other organisations, enabling applications for financial products to be assessed or to assist the tracing of debtors or to prevent fraud.
Marketing
The information you supply will be passed to Norwich Union Insurance Services Limited and to ASDA Financial Services Limited who will use it to:
- keep customer records up to date
- select and offer you products and services of ASDA group companies or selected third parties that may be of interest to you by telephone, SMS telephone text messaging, letter, fax or email
- build their relationship with you
- assist in processing any applications you may make to any ASDA group company.
Your information will, for administrative purposes, be passed to and be processed by the ASDA group's parent company in the USA and ASDA sub-contractors (including those outside the European Economic Area) under strict conditions of secrecy and security.
Your information may be disclosed and used by ASDA for these purposes even if you do not proceed with this Policy.
