The Child Trust Fund scheme has been set up by the government to help give children in the UK a financial head start when they're 18. Each child receives a voucher for £250 when Child Benefit is claimed. This must be invested in a Child Trust Fund.
When you open an Asda Child Trust Fund you'll get a £5 Asda Gift Card. And if you also set up a monthly Direct Debit for more than £10 we'll send you an Asda Gift Card for £25.
Your friends and family can pay in to your child's account up to a combined limit of £1,200 a year (not including the government contributions). So when you open an account, we'll give you a few top-up cards. They provide all the information your friends and family will need.
To make it easy to pay in to your child’s Child Trust Fund account, you can set up a Direct Debit or make one-off payments online.
When your child reaches 18 years old, they’ll have full access to their money. They can use this to help them go to university, buy their first car, or travel the world – whatever it is they have their heart set on.
We decided to team up with The Children's Mutual as they’re the only company in the UK to specialise in savings for children. They’ve also been named the UK's Best Child Trust Fund provider for the fourth year running by the Investment and Pensions Moneyfacts Awards.
The Asda Child Trust Fund is a Stakeholder Child Trust Fund account. The government has specified that Stakeholder accounts are linked to investment in shares for most of the 18 years that your child's account is open. There is also a cap on the charges on your child's account. We believe that shares should produce better returns than cash over the long term. Please remember that past performance is not a guide to the future, and your child could get back less than has been paid in.
There's no need to send us your government voucher - to save you time and hassle when you apply for an Asda Child Trust Fund there is no need to post in your government voucher, so that's one less thing to remember!
If you want to set up a regular payment in to your child's Asda Child Trust Fund you can choose to set up a Direct Debit to make a regular contribution every month. It’s simple, convenient and helps spread the cost of saving across the year. See below for an example of how paying in a regular monthly amount could help the account to grow over 18 years. By their 18th birthday they could have a worthwhile lump sum to help with whatever they want - a first car, for example!
